Welcome to the Learning Resource Centre’s Summer Reading Challenge.
In the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at OIEA we believe that reading for pleasure should be part of your every-day life, so that you will have the skills to help you with learning at school. The LRC is full of books that we know you’ll enjoy to borrow and read once you start at OIEA. Over the summer holidays we have set you a Challenge, so that you can keep up the reading skills you’ve gained during primary school!
The Challenge is to read at least 3 books, magazines or comics of your choice during the holidays. This diary is for you to complete and bring into the LRC in September. There is space for information about each book (magazine or comic), why you liked or disliked it, how long it took to read, a star-rating, would you recommend it, a book review, an alternative cover design and a photograph or drawing of your favourite place to read.
Books can be those that you have at home, borrowed from a friend or loaned from the public library. You can borrow ebooks for free from Derbyshire Library Service (www.derbyshire.gov.uk/libraries). We have included a short list of recommended books if you would like some suggestions.
All students that complete the Challenge will receive a certificate and small prize. There will also be prizes for the best cover design, book review and favourite place to read.
We hope you will take up the Challenge and we look forward to receiving your completed reading diaries in September and hear all about your reading and the books you’ve chosen.
