In Year 10 Students follow the syllabus OCR GCSE Business Studies – J253 (QAN: 500/4559/3).
In year 11 Students follow the Edexcel BTEC First Award in Business Studies – MRA05 (QAN: 600/4786/0). This course allows students the opportunity to study a variety of business related issues, without the pressure of sitting exams. Students will typically study five units covering topics such as legal structures, the economic environment, setting objectives and business finance. Students will also learn key employability skills during their work experience placement at the end of Year 10 that will help them understand communication in the workplace. The final unit allows students the chance to plan the setting up of their own business.
The course moves at a fast pace and students are expected to show a high level of commitment and work hard throughout. Students will need to demonstrate effective research skills and be adept at working both individually and as part of a team.
This course is the pre-runner for the highly successful BTEC National Business course offered in the Sixth Form. As well as this, the skills learned whilst studying the BTEC First will help develop key employability skills which will make students a more attractive proposition to employers should they decide to seek employment.
