Physical Education and Sport


Within Physical Education we provide a diverse, physically and academically, challenging curriculum. The Physical Education Department strives to deliver and provide outstanding teaching and learning opportunities for all students regardless of ability.

Year 7

Pupils will have the opportunity to participate PE concepts throughout the year. During this year, pupils will learn the fundamental skills in a variety of sports that can be developed throughout Key Stages 3 and 4.

The concepts are:

  • Outwitting opponents (football, rugby, netball, basketball, handball)
  • Accurate replication (tennis, badminton, volleyball, rounders, cricket, softball)
  • Performing at maximum levels (Athletics, fitness)
  • Exercising safely and effectively (circuits, aerobics, yoga )

Year 8

Pupils will further develop all fundamental skills learned in Year 7. Pupils will develop their understanding of the skill and health-related fitness requirements needed to improve in all sports. All pupils will develop their leadership qualities and will have an opportunity to lead within lessons.

Year 9-11 BTEC First in Sport

Pupils will further develop all fundamental skills learned in KS3 in addition to studying the following units

Unit 1

  • Components of physical fitness
  • Components of skill-related fitness
  • Why fitness components are important for successful participation in given sports
  • Exercise intensity and how it can be determined
  • Basic principles of training
  • Requirements for each of the fitness training methods.
  • Fitness Testing

Unit 2

  • Understand the rules, regulations and scoring systems for selected sports.
  • Practically demonstrate skills, techniques and tactics in selected sports.
  • Review Sports performances.

Unit 5

  • Design a personal fitness training programme
  • Know about the exercise adherence factors and strategies for continued training success
  • Implement a self-designed personal fitness training programme to achieve own goals and objectives.
  • Review a personal fitness programme

Unit 6

  • Know the attributes associated with successful sport leadership
  • Understand the planning and leading of sport activities
  • Review the planning and leading of sport activities.

Remember:

Any Problems, Illnesses or injuries – Bring a note.
Always bring your kit unless you have a serious injury or have discussed this with your PE Teacher.
If you have lost all or part of your kit, bring a note and an alternative t-shirt/shorts.
You can always be a coach, Leader umpire, referee or your teacher will adapt lesson so you can take part!

There are a number of enrichment opportunities for PE with Teams and Clubs every evening except Tuesday.
